====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 26, 2006 South Carolina: Urgent--Calls Needed to Stop Immunization Bill Dear HSLDA members and friends: Your calls are needed today to stop South Carolina Senate Bill 1046 which would create a state immunization registry to track vaccinations received by children. Such record keeping of personal medical information by the state is an unnecessary invasion of privacy. Private medical providers already do an excellent job of maintaining records on patients receiving immunizations. We don't want the state to begin harassing citizens about what shots to get and when. Additionally, the increase in the number of state employees required to administer this tracking program will result in higher operating expenses to the state and possibly higher taxes for citizens. Unfortunately, this bill is moving very fast. Yesterday it passed the second reading in the Senate and today is scheduled for the third and final reading. Your calls to senators expressing your opposition to this bill is the only way this bill will be defeated at this point. ACTION REQUESTED 1. Please contact your state senator with this message: "Please vote against Senate Bill 1046 which would create a state immunization registry for children. Such record keeping of personal medical information by the state is an unnecessary invasion of privacy.
