Dear HSLDA members and friends: Senate Bill 73 was amended on Thursday, April 13, to lower the increase in the compulsory attendance age from 18 to 17. In addition, homeschoolers were exempted from both the minimum and maximum compulsory age requirements--this means there will be no change in the compulsory attendance requirement for homeschoolers at all. The compulsory attendance age will change for all homeschoolers that are under the private school satellite option. Apparently, no private schools attended the hearing to voice their opposition. The only group that was successful in being excluded from the compulsory attendance bill was the homeschoolers who operate under the homeschool law. Thank you for your efforts in opposing this bill.
