====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 7, 2006 Arkansas--Possible Problems with Mandatory Testing Dear HSLDA members and friends: We have recently been made aware of some confusion regarding the state-mandated testing of homeschooled students, scheduled to begin Monday, April 10, 2006. Due to administrative difficulties, many homeschooling families have received no notice of the testing dates and locations while other families have been incorrectly informed of the date, location, and time of the test. After consulting with the Arkansas Department of Education and the Education Alliance, we have been asked to make our members aware of the following notice from the Arkansas Homeschool Testing Information website: "Many of you have indicated that you have not received the 2nd mailing and are concerned about the test. You should go ahead and show up at the site you selected. Each STATE SPONSORED site will have SOME extra tests for each grade and those will be given on a first come first serve basis. The Test Coordinator at each site will help you." If you have received notification of your child's testing date, location, and time, please visit http://www.afsc.k12.ar.us/homeschool/ to see if there are any posted changes. ACTION REQUESTED: 1. Please call your Test Coordinator immediately and confirm the date, location, and time of the test. Ensure that your students are present for the test on the correct date, location, and time. If you encounter any difficulties with the testing once you arrive or if there are an inadequate number of tests for your students, please cooperate with the Test Coordinator at that location to ensure that your difficulties are properly reported. 2. If you do encounter any difficulties please also ensure that you contact Melissa at the Education Alliance as soon as possible at (501) 375-7000. The Education Alliance is coordinating with the Department of Education to report testing difficulties of homeschool students. 3. Please forward this information to every homeschooling family you know who is not a member of HSLDA or who does not have Internet access and urge them confirm the testing date, time, and location with their testing coordinator. Also urge them to contact the Education Alliance if they encounter difficulties with the testing schedule or test availability. Sincerely, Darren A.
