Tennessee--Announcing Rally Day 2006!
The Tennessee Home Education Association invites all home-educating families to Rally Day 2006 taking place Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville, Tennessee. The theme this year is the United States and the Tennessee Constitutions, with guest speaker Michael Farris, Chairman of the Board of Home School Legal Defense Association and President of Patrick Henry College. He will speak on the timely topic, "Parental Rights, the Constitution, and the Coming Crisis." Tennessee home educators, you don't want to miss this! Activities begin at 9 a.m. in the War Memorial Auditorium on Capitol Hill.
We at HSLDA believe it is very important for as many homeschool families as possible to attend this event. The Tennessee General Assembly is considering several bills which would affect homeschooling families. At any time, they could introduce legislation to further restrict homeschooling.
In my 15 years at HSLDA I have seen how effective capitol lobby days are in preventing bad legislation. A face-to-face meeting between a legislator and a homeschooling family gives the legislator the opportunity to see firsthand the positive benefits of homeschooling. Informed homeschooling constituents who meet with and demonstrate interest in their legislator's activities provide that legislator with reasons to vote in favor of maintaining homeschool freedom. If a legislator never meets a homeschooler, he may have no reason to support parental freedom to homeschool and may vote against homeschooling if presented with the issue.
In addition to protecting your freedom, Rally Day 2006 provides a great opportunity to your children for a field trip to learn about state government and how laws are made in Tennessee.
Plan ahead and make an appointment with your legislators. Take advantage of this opportunity. Don't miss this year's great event!
On the agenda: > Presentations by Michael Farris, President of Patrick Henry College and Ned Ryun, Director of Generation Joshua. > 14 outstanding homeschool students throughout the state will be honored. > Performance by the Honor Band, conducted by John LaMacchia. > Student displays featuring homeschool student participation in 4-H, mock trial, athletics, speech and debate, and other activities. > Rally Day 2006 highlight: honoring pro-life legislators, with special spotlight on Senator David Fowler, sponsor of the pro-life amendment to the Tennessee Constitution.
Below are MORE reasons to attend Rally Day 2006: > Dispel any negative myths of the homeschool movement. > Give legislators an understanding of the large numbers of homeschoolers within the state. > Spend one-on-one time with your legislator. > Show legislators that the homeschool movement is alive and well. > In this election year, let legislators know that homeschoolers participate in the political process by voting.

We hope you can come this year!
Sincerely,
Dewitt T. Black, III HSLDA Senior Counsel
