Idaho--Marriage Amendment Heads to Senate

======================================================================
From the HSLDA E-lert Service...
======================================================================

February 15, 2006

Dear HSLDA members and friends:

Your calls worked! The marriage amendment passed the Senate State
Affairs Committee and is now headed to the Senate floor for a vote.

The amendment has been blocked in the Senate for the past two years.
It must pass with a two-thirds majority in order to go before the
voters for final approval.

This is probably the last opportunity we will have to pass this
amendment. The House has already passed the amendment so the Senate is
the last big hurdle.

Please keep calling your senators and ask them to support the marriage
amendment.

ACTION REQESTED:

Call your senator and give them this message:

"Please vote for H.J.R. 2. Give citizens an opportunity to have their
voices heard in support of preserving traditional marriage."

You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler.

To contact your senator you can call the legislative hotline at
1-800-362-9472.

BACKGROUND:

If H.J.R. 2 is passed by both the House and Senate, the issue will go
to the people and you will have the opportunity to vote for
traditional marriage during the elections this fall.

H.J.R. 2 states:

"The question to be submitted to the electors of the State of Idaho at
the next general election shall be as follows:

Shall Article III, of the Constitution of the State of Idaho be
amended by the addition of a new Section 28, to provide that a
marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union
that shall be valid or recognized in this state?"

Your right to homeschool rests on another freedom: the freedom to
direct the education and upbringing of your children. Your parental
rights, in turn are supported by the sanctity of marriage. Anything
that undermines marriage may ultimately undermine parental rights.

Amending the Idaho constitution will protect the concept of marriage
from activist state judges. Without this amendment, an activist judge
out of step with the citizens will one day redefine marriage for us
and allow same sex marriages.

Thank you for standing with us for freedom.

Sincerely,

Chris Klicka
