Dear HSLDA members and friends:

Legislative Bill 1213, which would modify Nebraska's law to allow just
one parent to sign the homeschool paperwork each year is scheduled for
a hearing. It will reduce the burden on all homeschool families and
enable single parents to homeschool without enduring major


1. Please call the members of the education committee (listed below),
and give them this message, "Please allow single parents to homeschool
in this state. Vote for L.B. 1213!"

2006, at 1:30 p.m., to show your support for this bill. Dave Lostroh
from Nebraska Christian Home Educators Association will be testifying
in its favor. The meeting will be held in Room 1525 at the Capitol in


Single parents in Nebraska have long struggled with the state's
requirement that both parents submit notarized statements agreeing to
the homeschool. Even though no other state has such a strictly
construed requirement, the Nebraska Department of Education has
constantly hounded single parents for a second signature, which is
sometimes impossible to obtain. This bill would eliminate that
problem and reduce the reporting burden on all families across the
