====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 9, 2006 Dear HSLDA members and friends: Now is your opportunity to support traditional marriage. The Idaho House has already passed House Joint Resolution 2, which allows a marriage amendment to go to the voters this upcoming election. HJR 2 is now in the Senate State Affairs Committee. If HRJ 2 is passed by both the House and Senate, the issue will go to the people and you will have the opportunity to vote for traditional marriage during the next elections. HRJ 2 states: "The question to be submitted to the electors of the State of Idaho at the next general election shall be as follows: Shall Article III, of the Constitution of the State of Idaho be amended by the addition of a new Section 28, to provide that a marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state?" Your right to homeschool rests on another freedom: the freedom to direct the education and upbringing of your children. Your parental rights, in turn are supported by the sanctity of marriage. Anything that undermines marriage may ultimately undermine parental rights. Amending the Idaho constitution will protect the concept of marriage from activist state judges. Without this amendment, an activist judge out of step with the citizens will one day redefine marriage for us and allow same sex marriages. Action Requested: Call as many members of the Senate State Affairs Committee members below and give them this message: "Please vote for HJR 2. Give citizens an opportunity to have their voices heard in support of preserving traditional marriage." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler.
