====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 3, 2006 Dear HSLDA members and friends, In a thinly-veiled attack on homeschooling, Senator Timothy Skinner (Terre Haute, District 38) has asked the Indiana Senate to create a committee to "examine the need for establishing homeschool guidelines." Apparently, he believes there are not enough restrictions on Indiana homeschoolers, or he would not have filed Senate Concurrent Resolution 15. Action Requested: If you live in Senator Skinner's district (our legislative toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox will assist you), please call and give him this message: "Please withdraw SCR 15. Homeschooling works. Homeschooling in Indiana is already subject to enough regulation." Background: Many people believe that homeschooling is unregulated in Indiana. This is not true. Homeschool families must provide "instruction equivalent" to the public schools. They must also provide education for the same number of days as other schools. Finally, they must send certain reports to state and local officials upon request. Homeschoolers have earned the right to be free. With your help, we will preserve your right to homeschool. Thank you for standing with us for freedom. Sincerely, Scott A.
