~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Home School Foundation Report ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ January/February 2006 Dear Friends of the Home School Foundation, In early November, the Foundation launched a program to send gift checks to the widows and single parents we had been able to help over the last year. We gave out 255 gifts through this program, sending out a gift of $100 to each widow or single parent plus $100 for each of their children. Each check was sent in a beautiful Christmas card along with a personal note of encouragement from one of our staff. The responses we received are overwhelming. Even a month later, we are still getting thank-you notes from widows and single parents who are praising the generosity of God. Thanks to homeschoolers like you, we were able to show that God really does care for the widows and the fatherless. Thank you, dear friends, for providing hope to these precious families who struggle to keep going and make ends meet. You touched hearts and gave a testimony of Christ's love and intimate care for the "least of these." We're sure you will enjoy the excerpts taken from some of the thank-you cards we received. ..................................................................... I cannot speak enough about this Christmas miracle. My three children and I decided not to give gifts this year. We decorated the house in homemade decorations, played and listened to Christmas music, and just enjoyed the birthday of Christ. I was hoping to have monies for new socks for us all--we all have holes in our socks. But alas, we were strapped again. Many times my children added to our prayers, "please help us find gifts to put under our tree this year, Lord." When my son (10) opened our first Christmas card of the season, we all sang God's praises how he can still send miracles to those in need. --T.M. ..................................................................... Wow! Thank you so much for the surprise gift. I was just thinking how I needed to buy 2 new tires and knew I'd have to charge them. With the money you sent I was able to buy them without going into debt. Yippeee! I was also able to buy the kids some clothing. The Lord is so good--through you. --S.F. ..................................................................... Thank you for your wonderful Christmas present. I was shocked, amazed and thrilled! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. God works in many ways. This year, at this time, He worked through you. --D.H. ..................................................................... On Monday, my 11-year-old son let me know that his feet were outgrowing his shoes. We asked the Lord for shoes just as any mother and son would ask an earthly father. That evening, I received your generous gift in the mail. Wow! My son gets shoes, God gets glorified, and I am again amazed by His love. --S.T. ..................................................................... I was praying one night asking the Lord where I needed to make adjustments in my faith, my heart attitudes, my spending habits, etc. I know God supplies all our needs, but from the looks of things it seemed there was a loose connection somewhere. I also knew the trouble was not on God's end. "Father...help me to see my blind spots...we really need to see a breakthrough this season." As I prepared for bed, I began sifting through a pile of mail. I came to your card, expecting a generic Christmas card, and boy was I surprised to see a check slip out of the card! I had a praise service right there at the table!! Tears streaming down my cheeks, I could only rejoice and thank God for His faithful love and care. The joy of the Lord filled me so full I gave a little shout ...and woke the kids up! Yea God!!! --P.B. ..................................................................... A few days ago, I wasn't sure what we would do for Christmas this year. I didn't know if I would have the emotional energy to even shop, let alone spend much of anything. I decided to go shopping to see if I could get in the mood but returned home almost empty-handed. When I picked up the mail that day, I found your check. My kids and I were absolutely stunned. We really feel like you are showing us God's love. You are cushioning the fall from our loss. --R. ..................................................................... Thank you so much for your generosity. God's timing is so perfect. Just moments before bringing in the mail I was crying with my middle daughter because of how much we miss my husband. Even after more than three years, I still feel a big tear in my heart. Now my tears are of a different nature. The generosity shown by HSF supporters is overwhelming to me. --L. ..................................................................... Your gift was like my husband (God the Father) saying, "This is for Christmas spending." Thank you for being the hand of the Father for us. It will make Christmas at our house a lot brighter this year. We were both teary-eyed when we opened the card. It was great to see my son realize what I've been telling him for the past 6 years now--that God takes care of the widows and orphans. When he read the verse on the card he said, "Hey mom, that's the same words you've been telling me, and now I know what you mean." --L. & A. ..................................................................... I was completely surprised to open the card and discover a Christmas gift. It spoke to me of so many things....of the love of the body of Christ...of the mission of the Home School Foundation...and of God's concern for my children. --S.W. ..................................................................... Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sending me a check to buy Christmas gifts for my children! My daughter was discouraged about Christmas this year to the point of wondering if it was worth it being a Christian. And you can guess--your check changed her attitude!!! --C.V. ..................................................................... This was our first Christmas without my husband. My oldest daughter had been asking several times a day if we would be able to have Christmas this year; I often cried when she did, because I knew that I couldn't give her gifts. I sincerely told her that I wasn't sure and that what mattered most is that we had each other. Several days later, after the mail had piled up more than I could bear, I decided to finally open your card. Much to my surprise, your check fell out! I could not believe my eyes!
