|
====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January 27, 2006: Dear HSLDA members and friends: We have an extra day to ask our delegates to support House Bill 1340 since it is likely that the vote has been delayed until Tuesday. Please call January 30 and 31 to support this important legislation. Your calls can make the difference. With your help we have been able to pass this bill once before in the House of Delegates. The bill has already passed the Senate and if it passes the House it can be sent to the Governor. Action Requested: If you have not been able to reach your delegate yet, please continue trying. When you get through, give your delegate this message: "Please vote in support of H.B. 1340. It will protect every parent's right to homeschool. Virginia needs to join the other 48 states that focus on results, not qualifications. The studies all show that homeschooling works, with students scoring above average regardless of the parents' qualifications." Use our legislative toolbox at http://capwiz.com/hslda/home/ to get contact information for your delegate. Background: The companion bill to H.B. 1340 has already passed the Senate. If H.B. 1340 passes the House, it will go to the Governor. If passed, this bill will allow families with a high school diploma the same freedom to homeschool as other families. It will align Virginia with the other 48 states that allow homeschoolers who only have a high school diploma to teach their children without needless restrictions. Passage of the legislation will end the harassment families without college degrees face from some school districts. For more information and documentation that demonstrates that there is no positive correlation between teacher qualifications and student performance, see http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?ID=1288 . Sincerely, Scott A. Woodruff HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Are you "organizationally challenged"?
