Michigan: Special-Needs Student Charged with Truancy Home School Legal Defense Association attorneys took up the case of a Michigan family who was charged with truancy for homeschooling their special-needs son. HSLDA showed that the mother was not only in compliance with the law, but had provided her son with an excellent education. Washington: District Corrects Form Recently a Home School Legal Defense Association member family contacted us when they received a copy of the local school district's Declaration of Intent form. This form, which homeschool families submit by September 15, requested more information than legally required. Louisiana: State Denies Home Study Renewal Application A Louisiana family contacted the Home School Legal Defense Association after state education officials refused to approve their home study program. The Department of Education wanted the family to indicate their son's grade level, a request HSLDA lawyers showed was not required by law.
