1. Illinois: Homeschool Family Dragged Into Court

An Illinois family that was homeschooling according to state law was
wrongly charged with truancy. An unsympathetic judge ordered the
family to send their child to public school, but a visit with the
district superintendent might result in the case being dropped.

2. Texas: Home Owners Association Threatens Homeschool

The Covent family was astonished one day when they were told that
their homeschool was a violation of their Home Owner's Association
Covenant and that they were required to cease homeschooling
immediately or face a lawsuit.

3. Illinois: Homeschool Graduate Told to Get a GED or be Fired

In November, Richard, a young homeschool graduate who also completed
four years of college, obtained a job at the same company as his
father. Everything went well at work until a few months into his
employment. He was told by a member of the management that he "must
get a GED or be fired."

4. Michigan: School District Distributes Unauthorized Inquiry Form

The Montcalm Area School District sent two Home School Legal Defense
Association member families a "Home Schooling Inquiry" letter.

5. Michigan: Attendance Officer Retreats from Jail Threat

After the local school district disregarded all petitions by the Lewis
family asking for accommodation of their son's health problems, the
family started homeschooling in October.

6. Learn Constitutional Law with Michael Farris

Don't forget to register for the spring semester of "Constitutional
Law Online," taught by Michael Farris, Chairman and General Counsel of
HSLDA and President of Patrick Henry College. This 18-week
Internet-based course explores the history of our legal system from a
biblical perspective. The first session begins Jan. 9.

Not only does studying music open up the world of art to a child, but
it also improves thinking skills by exercising both sides of the brain
