====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Virginia Beach Members--Opportunity to take the PSAT Dear HSLDA members and friends: Oaktree Academy has offered to let homeschool students participate in their administration of the Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test (PSAT). For more information, call Oaktree Academy at 757 547-0101 right away. It is located at 1101 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake. The PSAT is given once a year and is similar to the SAT, a widely-used college admission test. Taking the PSAT gives students an opportunity to practice for the SAT. It also gives parents a chance to estimate how their students will score on the SAT itself. The student's PSAT score is not sent to any college, but 11th grade students with exceptionally high scores (usually about the top 1% in each state) will be named "National Merit Scholar Semifinalists." About 90% of semifinalists are named finalists and being named a finalist opens the door to very generous scholarship programs at several colleges. As part of HSLDA's initiative to provide help for families who homeschool through high school, we have made special arrangements to offer a $199 SAT preparation program to our members for only $9.99.
