#=====---------------------------------------------------------------- HSLDA's Homeschooling Thru High School Newsletter -- September 2005 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear friends, Thanks for signing up for the Homeschooling Thru High School email newsletter. We're excited to begin a new school year along with all of you! Upcoming newsletters will focus on the practical side of homeschooling through high school, but this inaugural newsletter is a good opportunity for us to share a personal note as Home School Legal Defense Association's new High School Coordinators. Until just this last year, we both were homeschooling moms. Our children have now graduated from our homeschools, but we remember all too well feeling every emotion--from discouragement to weariness to inadequacy to satisfaction to delight!--as we homeschooled during the high school years. We struggled through challenging times as we wept over our children, but we also remember precious times of joy. As you begin a new year of homeschooling, take heart. Sure, there will be days when you want to quit--maybe more days than you'd like to imagine--but know that your work is not in vain. Remember to assess everything you do this year in light of eternity. You'll stay focused, keep the proper perspective, and not sweat the small stuff. Guard against becoming overwhelmed--you don't need to buy every curriculum you read about on our or on any other website, you don't need to sign up for every online course that is offered, and you don't need to compare yourself or your child to anyone else. If family circumstances warrant simply providing your student with a basic high school education, that's perfectly fine. If you have the strength, energy, resources, and time to add some bells and whistles, then go for it! Seek out encouragement from those who have already made the journey. These two testimonials from homeschooled graduates will refresh your heart. As these young adults share their remembrances of being homeschooled during their high school years, you'll be reminded that "the days are long, but the years are short." Stories from the Home Front http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=2554 Pass along the encouragement: if you have a friend who is also homeschooling at the high school level, encourage her to sign up for this newsletter. Sign up here: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=2555 Next month, we'll discuss the ins and outs of the SAT and ACT tests that colleges use for admission purposes. Until then, we are here for you from the first day of homeschooling right through graduation day! With joy to you, Becky Cooke and Diane Kummer HSLDA High School Coordinators #=====---------- Have a topic for a future high school email newsletter?
