====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== August 26, 2005 Washington--Declaration of Intent Deadline Fast Approaching Dear HSLDA members: For those of you planning to comply with Washington's homeschool law for the 2005-2006 school year, we are providing the following information by way of reminder. Parents or guardians who seek to teach their children at home under Washington's homeschool statute must submit a declaration of intent to the superintendent of their local school district for any child between the ages of 8 and 18. This declaration of intent must be submitted by September 15, 2005. In recent years, many school districts have provided homeschool families with declaration of intent forms that request more information than required under the law. According to the Revised Code of Washington 28A.200.010 the declaration of intent need only include the name and age (not the date of birth) of the child, and specify whether a certified person will be supervising the instruction. HSLDA has provided a declaration of intent form for our members to use, see Forms and Resources http://members.hslda.org/state/WA/WA-DeclarationofIntent.pdf . Please note that HSLDA will defend any member family whose right to teach their children at home is challenged by the state. The information in this email is provided to those who intend to comply with state law and to assist you in meeting the statutory deadline. Please contact us if you have any questions about getting started this school year. Sincerely, Thomas J. Schmidt HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How many acorns can a chipmunk hold in its cheeks? We don't know! But we do know that gathering little by little enables ordinary folks to prepare for hard times. That principle is behind HSLDA's payment plan: by paying a month at a time, families can receive an annual HSLDA membership. Meanwhile, they can feel secure as they homeschool and focus on other priorities -their children. Don't go nuts trying to pay for membership all at once. Choose one of our convenient payment plans.
