====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== West Virginia--Please Continue to Call in Support of the Byrd Scholarship Dear HSLDA members and friends: Two weeks ago, we asked you to call Senator Byrd's office. However, Senator Byrd has yet to indicate his support for including all homeschoolers in the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program. In fact, homeschoolers in West Virginia are not eligible for the Byrd scholarship because West Virginia is not a 'private school' state. Only 13 states consider homeschools to be private schools, which enables homeschoolers in those states to be eligible for the scholarship. ACTION REQUESTED: Please continue to call or write to Senator Byrd and courteously ask him to support ending discrimination against homeschoolers. It is especially important that you are kind and gracious in your request; we simply want to express our support for this simple change. Please contact Senator Byrd's office by calling 202-224-3954 and email him through his online form ( http://byrd.senate.gov/byrd_email.html ).
