====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Texas--Marriage Amendment Passes Dear HSLDA members and friends: House Joint Resolution 6 is a constitutional amendment providing that marriage in the state of Texas consists only of the union of one man and one woman, and prohibits the state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage. Because of your calls in support of H.J.R. 6 at a couple of key junctures, it passed the Senate on May 22, and was signed in both houses the following day. HSLDA Legislative Counsel Tom Sanders lobbied intensely for the passage of this amendment. Now that the marriage amendment has passed the legislature, it will be voted on by the people of Texas in an election to be held November 8, 2005. If it passes, then it will become part of the Texas state constitution.
