Illinois--Calls Still Needed to Defeat Compulsory Attendance Bill
Dear HSLDA members and friends:
We appreciate all of you who have continued to call the House Elementary and Secondary Education Committee Members. We believe your calls are making an impact.
Senate Bill 409 was not called before the committee. Although the opposition to the bill was already strong, there were several homeschooling families who, after contacting committee members, gained a few more "No" votes. Nevertheless, we still need your calls to ensure that this bill does not pass.
The bill must be approved by May 11, 2005, in order to meet the deadline for Senate bills to be presented before the House of Representatives.
ACTION REQUESTED
Keep your calls coming into your state representatives. Please give them this message:
"Please vote against Senate Bill 409, which lowers the compulsory attendance age. This bill is unnecessary. It restricts parental choice and wastes taxpayer money."
Do not identify yourself as a homeschooler.
You can find information on your representative by using our Legislative Toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox/ or call the Capitol at 217-782-3944.
Thank you for standing with us in the fight for freedom.
Sincerely,
Christopher J. Klicka, Esq. HSLDA Senior Counsel

We don't know! But we do know that gathering little by little enables ordinary folks to prepare for hard times. That principle is behind HSLDA's payment plan: by paying a month at a time, families can receive an annual HSLDA membership. Meanwhile, they can feel secure as they homeschool and focus on other priorities -their children. Don't go nuts trying to pay for membership all at once. Choose one of our convenient payment plans.
