====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 29, 2005 Texas--Calls Needed to Support Marriage Dear HSLDA members and friends, Now is your opportunity to support traditional marriage. The Texas House has already passed House Joint Resolution 6, which allows a marriage amendment to go to the voters this November. HJR 6 is now in the Senate State Affairs Committee. If HRJ 6 is passed by both the House and Senate, "This proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 8, 2005. The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage." Your right to homeschool rests on another freedom: the freedom to direct the education and upbringing of your children. Your parental rights, in turn are supported by the sanctity of marriage. Anything that undermines marriage may ultimately undermine parental rights. Amending the Texas constitution will protect the concept of marriage from activist state judges. Without this amendment, an activist judge out of step with the citizens will one day redefine marriage for us. ACTION REQUESTED Call as many members of the Senate State Affairs Committee members below and give them this message: "Please vote for HJR 6. Give citizens an opportunity to have their voices heard in support of preserving marriage." You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Senate State Affairs Committee members: Chair, Sen. Robert Duncan 512-463-0128 Vice-Chair, Sen. Tommy Williams 512-463-0104 Sen. Kenneth Armbrister 512-463-0118 Sen. Rodney Ellis 512-463-0113 Sen. Troy Fraser 512-463-0124 Sen. Chris Harris 512-463-0109 Sen. Mike Jackson 512-463-0111 Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr. 512-463-0127 Sen. Frank Madla 512-463-0119 Thank you for standing with us for freedom. Sincerely, Chris Klicka HSLDA Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Will your friends stand by you in trouble?
