====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 6, 2005 Nevada--Calls Needed Today to Stop Homeschool Testing Bill Dear HSLDA members and friends: On Wednesday, April 6th, the Assembly Education Committee will be meeting to discuss Assembly Bill 397. This bill would require testing of all homeschool students in grades 4, 7, 10, and 11. Your calls and emails are needed immediately to let the Education Committee know that homeschoolers in Nevada don't need or want this bill. Homeschoolers in Nevada and across the country have a proven track record over the past twenty years of achieving above average test scores. Studies have also shown that more regulation of homeschoolers does not increase the academic performance of homeschoolers. Furthermore, this bill will require more money and time to be spent by school districts to administer and track these unnecessary testing requirements. ACTION REQUESTED Please call immediately as many of the committee members as possible and give them this message: "Please vote against Assembly Bill 397. Homeschoolers have a proven track record of scoring above average on standardized achievement tests and do not need more tests. School districts will have to implement and track these testing requirements which will increase costs." Assembly Education Committee Members: Bonnie Parnell - Chair 775-684-8825 bparnell@asm.state.nv.us Debbie Smith - Vice Chair 775-684-8841 dsmith@asm.state.nv.us Kelvin Atkinson 775-684-8577 katkinson@asm.state.nv.us William Horne 775-684-8847 whorne@asm.state.nv.us Bob McCleary 775-684-8553 bmccleary@asm.state.nv.us Mark Manendo 775-684-8801 mmanendo@asm.state.nv.us Harvey Munford 775-684-8545 hmunford@asm.state.nv.us Sharron Angle 775-684-8848 sangle@asm.state.nv.us Joe Hardy 775-684-8857 jhardy@asm.state.nv.us Brooks Holcomb 775-684-8559 bholcomb@asm.state.nv.us Garn Mabey 775-684-8827 gmabey@asm.state.nv.us Sincerely, Christopher J.
