Florida--Compulsory Attendance Bill Defeated
Dear HSLDA members and friends:
Thank you for your hundreds of calls on House Bill 1115. Due to your
calls the bill was defeated.
The House Pre K-12 Committee discussed the bill in a committee meeting
on Tuesday, March 29 and voted against it 6 to 3.
If this bill had passed the committee and continued through the
process to become law homeschoolers would have had to notify the
school district and be subject to its jurisdiction for two more years.
This would have meant two more years of paperwork, portfolios, and
tests for 16-18 year olds.
With your help, however, the state's attempt to expand jurisdiction
over your children has been stopped. Thank you for taking the time to
help defeat this harmful bill.
