Colorado--Calls Needed Immediately to Keep Homeschoolers Out of Immunization Tracking System
Dear HSLDA members and friends,
We are still waiting for the House to vote on Senate Bill 87 and Representatives are saying that they are not getting many calls. A lack of calls gives the impression that homeschoolers do not care about being part of the immunization tracking system.
Let's prove them wrong. Please call now.
Senate Bill 87 is on the fast track for passage through the Legislature. This bill will make the existing Immunization Tracking System (ITS) in Colorado more comprehensive and intrusive than ever before.
This tracking system will aggressively monitor the vaccinations for every child in Colorado. Although the current immunization tracking system was established several years ago personal information was kept strictly confidential. Parents also had the opportunity to "opt out" from the system.
Unfortunately, S.B. 87 reverses this law and requires parents to be contacted when their child is due or overdue for any mandated vaccination. The ITS, when fully implemented, will be a permanent tracking system of all children and their parents in Colorado. On a party line vote in the House committee an amendment was defeated that would have allowed parents to have all information about themselves and their children completely removed from the database.
Although this bill has passed the Senate and the House committee on Health and Human Services, the amendment to protect privacy could still be added on the House floor.
Therefore, we need your calls today to your representative to ask him to vote for the Cloer amendment, which will allow parents to "opt out" of this database.
ACTION REQUESTED
Please call your state representative today and give him this message:
"Support the Cloer Amendment to Senate Bill 87. This amendment will protect parental liberty and allow parents to decide if they want to be part of an immunization tracking database."
You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler.
To contact your state representative, call the Capitol at 303-866-2904 or use HSLDA's Legislative Toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox
Remember, time is of the essence. S.B. 87 may be voted on in the House at any time, so please call now.
