Bill Gates has declared American high schools "obsolete." In a
February 26 speech to the National Education Summit on High Schools,
he said "our high schools - even when they're working exactly as
designed - cannot teach our kids what they need to know today."

2. Maurice River Township Seeks to Approve Curriculum

New Jersey - The Chief School Administrator of the Maurice River
Township School District told an HSLDA member family that the school
would either "accept or reject the (homeschool) curriculum, and notify
the board of education...of the outcome."

3. "Uncooperative" Family Threatened by Social Services

Texas - The W family in Denton was reported to social services by
their neighbor, who was angry because there had been a dispute
concerning his dog. As a result, he used the child welfare system to
retaliate against the family.

Despite unanimous votes in the House and Senate, the Salt Lake Tribune
has urged Governor Huntsmen to veto this veto-proof bill.
