====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 21, 2005 New Hampshire--Hearing Tuesday for Bill to Protect Parents' Rights Dear HSLDA members and friends: A bill that would give parents the right to request a jury trial if the government tries to terminate their parental rights is scheduled for a hearing Tuesday, March 22. Under current law, a judge makes this decision. While most judges are fair and reasonable, a few are capricious, vindictive and lack objectivity. If a parent believes he would not be treated fairly by a judge, this bill would give him the right to a trial by a jury of fellow citizens. A jury trial is a valuable protection against misguided government attacks on family integrity. ACTION REQUESTED The members of the House Education Committee are listed below: Michael B. Asselin 603-642-7205 Michael A. Balboni 603-598-3851 W. Packy Campbell 603-859-6273 Mark S. Carter 603-924-4206 Kimberley S. Casey 603-772-8506 Claire D. Clarke 603-796-2268 J. Your message can be as simple as, "Please support H.B. 610. Parents' rights deserve protection. It would allow a jury trial if parents are faced with the termination of their parental rights." Since this bill affects everyone, not just homeschoolers, DO NOT identify yourself as a homeschooler when you call. If you do not know who your representative is, use our legislative toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox . Thank you for standing with us for freedom. Sincerely, Scott Woodruff HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Remember the last time you wrote a term paper?
