====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 18, 2005 Virginia--Prince William County Public Schools Letter to Homeschool Parents Dear Prince William County HSLDA member, The Prince William County Public School District has sent a letter to homeschool parents. We would like to offer some helpful clarification. 1. Virginia law only requires you to send your immunization records to the school district if the superintendent himself or herself specifically requests the records from you. You are not required to respond to a school district employee or assistant. If the superintendent were to send you a valid request, you do not need to use any specific form. If you have a religious objection to immunizations, you may print off a religious exemption sheet from our Virginia members-only web page at www.hslda.org. Have it notarized, and send it to the school district superintendent, if you would like your exemption to be documented. There is no penalty for not submitting immunization information. 2. If you were to cease homeschooling for some reason, there is no statutory requirement to notify the school district. While you can notify the school district as a sensible courtesy, you do not need to use any specific notification form.
