====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 16, 2005 Rhode Island--Update on Sex Education Bill - 4:30 pm Hearing Expected Today Dear HSLDA members and friends: Please continue to call the members of the House Health, Education and Welfare Committee. We now expect the committee hearing on the sex education bill, House Bill 5354, to start at 4:30 P.M. today rather than 5:00 P.M. Please arrive at Room 135 in the Statehouse Building in plenty of time in case the hearing starts any earlier, and to allow time to be seated. We expect the sponsor to say that it is not her intention to force state-controlled sex education on homeschool families. Despite several requests, however, she has not supplied me with the language of a specific amendment to cure the problem, nor has she returned my numerous phone calls nor agreed to an amendment I have offered her. We need a big turnout from the homeschool community to make sure that the sponsor's good intentions are turned into iron-clad protection from state-controlled sex education being pushed into our homes.
