Illinois--More Calls Needed to Stop Expansion of Compulsory Attendance
Dear HSLDA members and friends:
We need your calls once again to stop Senate Bill 409, which will expand the state's control over your children for two more years. This bill is on a fast track for passage.
The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15 at 1:00 P.M. We urge you to call every committee member and attend the hearing, if possible. The legislation from this committee affects the whole state, so they need to hear from every citizen who is opposed to this bill.
The Illinois Christian Home Education Coalition has visited the bill's sponsor, Senator Raoul, and he has refused to withdraw or amend this bill.
ACTION REQUESTED
1) Please call as many Senate Elementary and Secondary Education Committee members as possible and give them this message:
"Please vote against S.B. 409, which lowers the compulsory attendance age. This bill is unnecessary. It restricts parental choice and wastes taxpayer money."
Do not identify yourself as a homeschooler.
Members of the Senate Elementary and Secondary Education Committee:
Senator Kimberly Lightford, Chairperson (217) 782-8505
Senator Miguel del Valle, Vice-Chair (217) 782-5652
Senator Deanna Demuzio (217) 782-8206
Senator Gary Forby (217) 782-5509
Senator Susan Garrett (217) 782-3650

Senator J. Bradley Burzynski (217) 782-1977
Senator David Luechtefeld (217) 782-8137

2) Please attend the committee hearing, which will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 1:00 P.M. in Room 212 of the Capitol building. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> There may be a shortage of the flu vaccine, but there's no shortage of legal protection for homeschoolers.
HSLDA is 80,000 families standing together for the right of each family to teach their children at home. You don't have to stand alone against those who think homeschoolers should be regulated and controlled. Joining a team of home educators who will stick with you may be just what the doctor ordered for your homeschool . . . and your peace of mind.
