On Tuesday of this week, the Senate Education Committee recommended a "do pass" for House Bill 1265 by a 4 - 2 vote. This bill would change North Dakota law to permit all children with developmental disabilities to be homeschooled. The supporters of the bill had to overcome an attempt by the Department of Public Instruction to amend the bill in committee to require that all service plans for the disabled children be designed by the school district. The bill is now in the Senate where a vote is expected as soon as tomorrow. Your calls are needed right away to members of the Senate, urging them to vote for this legislation without any amendments. ACTION REQUESTED: 1. Please contact your state senator and urge him to vote for this legislation with the following message: "Please vote for House Bill 1265 without any amendments. This bill would allow parents to homeschool their developmentally disabled children as every other state permits." 2. Please forward this email to every homeschooling family you know who is not a member of HSLDA and urge them to contact their state senator with the same message.
