====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 2, 2005 Minnesota--Action Needed to Expand the Homeschool Tax Credit Dear HSLDA members and friends: Senate File 816 expands the income levels eligible to receive the tax credit and eliminates the cap on money that families with multiple children can receive. It is being considered by the Education Committee. There are five key Senators on this committee who need to hear from constituents who support this bill. ACTION REQUESTED Please find your State Senator by using HSLDA's legislative toolbox http://www.hslda.org/toolbox . If your Senator is Stumpf, Skoe, Saxhaug, Tomassoni, or Kelley, please call their office and leave the following message: "Expanding the tax credit would assist us in providing a good education for our children. Please vote 'Yes' on SF 816." BACKGROUND Minnesota is one of the few states to provide lower-income families with an education tax credit to help offset their educational expense for teaching their children at home. Because the tax credit is not a direct government handout the money does not come with government "strings" attached. SF 816 would expand the scope of this tax credit, enabling many homeschool families to keep more of their own money. Sincerely, Scott W.
