====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 25, 2005 Virginia--Please Call Immediately to Stop the State Choosing Tests for Homeschoolers Dear HSLDA members and friends: We urgently need your help. Five of the six members of the conference committee voted yesterday to give the State Superintendent of Public Instruction the power to decide what tests homeschool parents can use under testing option 1. The bill can no longer be amended. Our freedom can only be protected by defeating HB 1770 outright. Your calls must reach the Capitol before 11:00 AM. The House and Senate will go into session around noon and vote on HB 1770 shortly thereafter. Home Educators Association of Virginia agrees that the bill should be defeated. ACTION REQUESTED 1. Immediately call your Senator and Delegate and give them this message, "Please vote NO on HB 1770. Bureaucrats must not be given the power to dictate which tests homeschool families can use." 2. Not all homeschoolers have email. Please call several of your homeschool friends and ask them to join us in this final push to protect freedom. 3. Call the Constituent Viewpoint switchboard to leave a message for your Senator and Delegate. You can use (800) 889-0229 if you live outside the Richmond area or (804) 698-1990 if you live in Richmond. 4. If you do not know the name of your Senator or Delegate, use our legislative toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox/ For a more detailed explanation of why the status quo is better than the current form of HB 1770, go to http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?ID=2138 Thank you for standing with us for freedom! Sincerely, Scott A. Woodruff HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Remember the last time you wrote a term paper? Research can be grueling-digging through archives, wading through articles, conducting interviews. But if it's related to homeschooling, you can relax a little. There's a good chance that you'll find what you're looking for in HSLDA's bimonthly Home School Court Report. Providing in-depth, insightful articles on much of what affects the world of homeschoolers, the Court Report is a must-read for the serious homeschooler. This publication is provided free to each HSLDA member.
