Virginia--Please Call Immediately - Testing Freedom in Hands of Conference Committee
Dear HSLDA members and friends:
Today or tomorrow six legislators will draft the final version of the Testing Freedom Bill, House Bill 1770. It is crucial that the final version deny state bureaucrats the power to choose tests for homeschoolers.
The Senators on the conference committee are:
Janet Howell (804) 698-7532 Harry Blevins (804) 698-7514 Louise Lucas (804) 698-7518
The Delegates are:
James Dillard (804) 698-1041 Steven Landes (804) 698-1025 Jackie Stump (804) 698-1003
ACTION REQUESTED
Please call each of the Senators and Delegates, using the phone numbers listed above, immediately. Your message can be as simple as: "Please support HB 1770, as amended by the Senate Education and Health Committee. Homeschool parents in many other states already have the freedom to test their children with a nationally normed standardized test. This bill would guarantee that Virginia homeschool parents have the same freedom."
BACKGROUND
The "Organization of Virginia Homeschoolers" (formerly Virginia Home Educators Association) is supporting language that would give the state the power to control what tests we can use under testing option 1. HSLDA opposes giving the state this authority and urges all homeschoolers to support HB 1770 ONLY if it gives homeschoolers the freedom to choose which test we can use under testing option 1.
Sincerely,
Scott A. Woodruff HSLDA Staff Attorney
