Illinois--Harmful Daytime Curfew Bill Stopped by Homeschoolers
Dear HSLDA members and friends:
Thank you for your calls. You were successful in stopping House Bill
1130 from proceeding any further in the Illinois Legislature.
Due to the overwhelming number of calls received from homeschoolers,
the sponsor of House Bill 1130, Representative Dave Winters, has
promised not to call the bill for a vote in its present form.
Representative Winters may still try to bring an amended bill before
the committee, but has expressed a desire to work with the
homeschooling community to ensure that constitutional freedoms are
protected. However, since any type of daytime curfew is a threat to
these freedoms HSLDA cannot agree with any amended curfew bill.
For now, the victory has been won because of your efforts. Several of
the longtime Representatives in the Local Government Committee said
they had never received so many calls on an issue before!
Please stand ready if there is another need for calls later in the
year. Hopefully, Representative Winters will be discouraged from
pursuing any other type of curfew.
Thank you for being vigilant and willing to make sacrifices to protect
and expand our constitution freedoms and liberties. Your calls and
membership with HSLDA make these victories possible.
