====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January 27, 2005 North Dakota--Calls Needed to Pass Positive Homeschool Legislation Dear HSLDA members and friends: The House Education Committee has amended House Bill 1265 and unanimously recommended a "do pass" as amended. The Committee amendments do not preserve any of the favorable changes sought in the original bill. Nonetheless, HSLDA supports the Committee's amendment since they will change the law to permit parents to homeschool their developmentally disabled children under the same conditions that autistic children are now homeschooled. While it is disappointing that the Committee did not pass the original bill, it is still an improvement over existing law and will give more freedom to homeschool parents with special needs children. Therefore, we are recommending that the home educators of North Dakota support the bill in its present form and continue to contact their legislators, asking them to vote for this bill. We will not give up the fight to remove unnecessary restrictions from homeschooling parents in future legislative sessions. This bill may come before the full House of Representatives very soon, so time is of the essence. ACTION REQUESTED 1. Please contact your state representative with this message: "Please vote for House Bill 1265. This bill would allow parents to homeschool their developmentally disabled children as every other state permits." You can find the name and telephone number of your state representative by using HSLDA's Legislative Toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?ID=2052 2. Please forward this e-mail to every homeschooling family you know who is not a member of HSLDA and urge them to contact members their state representative.
