====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January 21, 2005 Progress in Wyoming Dear HSLDA members and friends: Good news! House Bill 76, which HSLDA has been tracking, has passed the House of Representatives. HSLDA has been working with state leaders and legislators to eliminate a section penalizing failure to report child abuse, and add a section that penalizes false reporting of child abuse. Due to the great reputation of homeschool families and their lobbying ability, as well as the hard work of state and local homeschool leaders, both positive changes have been made. This bill now goes to the Senate. We will keep you updated on its progress. In addition, please continue to keep this legislative session in your prayers. So far, the hard work of homeschoolers has been rewarded with great success, but we need to continue in the power of God to accomplish our goals! A different piece of legislation, HB 231, which would raise the compulsory attendance age, is making its way through the legislative process. Thank you to everyone who has called to express opposition to House Bill 231. As many of you have probably discovered, the voter hotline has its limitations. Please use the additional information below to continue to oppose HB 231. We will keep you updated as the situation develops. REQUESTED ACTION Please use the voter hotline, (307) 777 8683, to request that your representative vote against House Bill 231. However, if you would like to leave a message, or contact a number of legislators including members of the Education Committee, please call the House of Representatives receptionist at (307) 777-7852. Sincerely, Scott Somerville HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Have you ever yelled into the wind, only to hear the sound of your voice blown back at you? It's hard to be heard in the midst of a storm. Trying to influence federal legislation is much like yelling to be heard while standing in a fierce wind. Yet when 80,000 voices join together, they become a powerful force that cannot be drowned out. Join HSLDA to be heard above the tempests that threaten homeschool freedoms.
