"Homeschooling Illegal" Declares German School Official Seven homeschool families in Northwest Germany are being forced to enroll their children in public school. The Paderborn County school board has levied fines against these families and ordered the children to attend school or the police will forcibly take them to school. Any resistance by the parents will result in the removal of these thirteen elementary age children from their homes and into state custody. Last spring, South Dakota Education Secretary Rick Melmer approved a set of rules the South Dakota Board of Regents had drafted that prevented homeschooled students from receiving the state Opportunity Scholarship program. Montgomery County Retreats from Unnecessary Demands for Kindergarten Exemption In September, an HSLDA family tried to exempt their five-year-old son from kindergarten. Generation Joshua - Benjamin Rush Award Winners Visit Washington D.C. Matthew Johnson, Brittany Barden and Micah Derry visited D.C. last month. It was part of the American Statesman Award which was given to the top three Generation Joshua members in the nation. To win this award Matthew, Brittany and Micah had to, among other requirements, register 100 voters, sign up 20 new Generation Joshua members, complete one radio show or feature article on Generation Joshua, give 120 volunteer hours to a campaign or a local party, and have three letters to editor published on a current issue.
