====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== September 23, 2004 Utah--Vote for Traditional Marriage! Dear HSLDA members and friends, Utah voters have an opportunity to vote for traditional marriage and parental rights on November 2. I am writing to urge you to vote "Yes" on Amendment 3, which defines marriage in Utah as between "one man and one woman." When federal legislators proposed to amend the U.S. Constitution to prohibit homosexual "marriage" but to recognize "civil unions," HSLDA was quick to object. Any law that assigns or modifies parental rights affect the foundations of our families, and recent litigation involving one Vermont couple (where "civil unions" were first legalized) has proven that parental rights are directly affected by legal relationships that fall short of true "marriage." Utah's Amendment 3 makes it clear that Utah will only recognize families founded on the lawful relationship of one man and one woman. Homosexual activists are spending substantial amounts of money to persuade Utah voters to vote "No" on Amendment 3, arguing that "it goes too far." That means each Utah citizen who believes in traditional marriage must work hard to persuade others to vote "Yes" on this amendment. We thank you, in advance, for doing what you can to uphold marriage in Utah. Sincerely, Scott W.
