Wyoming--Fighting for Freedom in Wyoming
Dear HSLDA members and friends:
For 21 years, the Home School Legal Defense Association has sent lawyers into courtrooms to protect family freedoms. Our "legal defense" has helped make homeschooling possible in all 50 states. As everyone knows, however, the best defense is a good offense. In Wyoming, homeschoolers are moving onto the political offense.
HSLDA made news this year by forming Generation Joshua, a nationwide movement of teen activists who are committed to electing freedom loving representatives. Wyoming took another step in this initiative when it formed the "Young Patriots" organization this year, which is dedicated to the same goal. These teens are committed to do their part in preserving the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity.
Wyoming homeschoolers need to get organized this fall because Senator Kathryn Sessions has announced her intention to use the next long legislative session to "crackdown" on homeschoolers. The 2004 legislative season was a 20 day whirlwind of danger and opportunity. Wyoming homeschoolers proved themselves the most committed lobbyists in Cheyenne, even though many families knew little about the legislative process at the start of the session. HSLDA encourages every Wyoming homeschooler to get all the training possible to prepare for the 2005 session.
One training opportunity is the "Family Values Legislative Training Conference" on October 22-23 in Cheyenne. The Wyoming Family Coalition and WyWatch are hosting this event at:
The Little America Hotel and Resort 2800 West Lincolnway Cheyenne, WY, 82009.
Registration begins Friday at 4 p.m. and features speakers such as Representative Michael Baker, Cheyenne Mayor Jack Spiker, and Representative Bob Brechtel.
For more information, contact Becky Vandeberghe at Phone: (307) 547-3785 Email: bvandeberghe@surfmk.com
Homeschoolers who become active in October can make a difference on election day in November. Representatives who have been elected with homeschool help in the fall are more likely to stand up for homeschool freedoms when the legislature goes to work next winter. Your participation today preserves our liberty tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Scott Somerville HSLDA Staff Attorney
