====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== June 9, 2004 HSLDA's Generation Joshua--America Needs Your Help! Dear HSLDA members and friends: HSLDA's Generation Joshua program has officially launched a new program designed to increase voter participation and voter turnout among Christian conservatives and America's churches. We believe you-and especially your teens-have been raised up to make a difference in America at this critical juncture in our nation's history. You and your high school students can make a difference in our elections this year by becoming a voter registration coordinator for your church. Please become a part of this exciting, nationwide initiative by signing up at http://www.generationjoshua.org/VoterReg.asp to conduct a voter registration drive at your church, local organization or homeschool support group. Like the Moses generation, who left Egypt and braved the wilderness, homeschoolers have left the traditional school system and taken on the responsibility of educating their own children. You and hundreds like you have crossed the "Red Sea" and for 25 years, homeschoolers have overcome attacks and hurdles that seemed insurmountable. God has guided us and been with us each step of the way. Now, however, we believe the next generation of homeschoolers, the Joshua Generation, has been equipped to take the torch for a new and different mission-a mission to reclaim the land. A critical part of this mission includes getting churches and their congregations actively involved in the political process. In 2001, a Pew Research poll showed that of the 59 million self-proclaimed evangelicals of voting age in America, less then 60 percent were registered to vote and only, 25 percent actually voted. With this paltry participation, it is no wonder we have lost the pro-life battle for 30 years and are struggling to stop the onslaught of homosexual marriage. A 10 percent increase in voter participation from America's churches would mean 6 million more voters casting ballots for hundreds of candidates who believe in homeschooling, life for the unborn and in marriage between one man and one woman. Imagine the impact this would have on our political landscape and the laws affecting the family. To make this vision of church participation a reality, we are calling on all homeschool families to become voter registration coordinators for their churches. A church coordinator's job is simply to get permission and cooperation from your church leadership, conduct a voter registration drive on at least one Sunday before October 1, and remind the voters of your church the Sunday before Election Day to go to the polls and vote. We have made this task easy with step-by-step instructions that include how to talk to your pastor, the rules about conducting voter registration drives in churches, and how to set up a voter registration table at a Sunday service. To become a part of this critical mission to reclaim America for righteousness, visit http://www.generationjoshua.org/VoterReg.asp Restoring America's Godly heritage requires the individual action of many. It was only through the action of each individual of Joshua's generation that God gave the nation of Israel victory in the Promised Land. God can also give us victory over evil in America if we faithfully participate in the political process and actively encourage our churches and people of faith to do the same. Please be a part of reclaiming America through HSLDA's Generation Joshua voter registration initiative. Sincerely, J.
