====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, I would like to make you aware of an important opportunity coming to your area. The only national forensics tournament held exclusively for homeschool students will be held at Liberty University in Lynchburg on June 2-5, and they would greatly appreciate your help with judging this event. HSLDA is proud to be the organization that started this league for homeschoolers and sponsored the national tournament for the first four years. The league is now run by the National Christian Forensics and Comminications Association (NCFCA), and we continue to maintain a working relationship with that organization. I will be at the tournament to judge the final round of policy debate competition and also speak at the awards ceremony. I would like you to consider judging at this event. The NCFCA is looking for members from the Lynchburg community who would be willing to give a couple hours of time to judge either policy or value debate rounds and individual event (such as persuasive speech, original oratory, dramatic interpretation, etc.) rounds. There will be rounds each day - the specific times of each round on each day are listed below. Thursday and Friday are the days with the greatest need for judges. There is no experience needed to judge at the tournament. The competitors are trained to communicate effectively to someone with no speech or debate experience. Plus, there is a 30 minute training session before each round where someone will present a brief explanation of the event you would be judging. Judges will be asked to fill out an evaluation form after the competition round. This is an opportunity to not only serve the homeschooling community but to also have a chance to see the success of homeschooling itself. I believe you will be encouraged and inspired to see the best homeschool student speakers from around the country show the fruits of their labors. This tournament is also a good opportunity to bring your older children to view these events and get a taste for public speaking and persuasion. NCFCA would greatly appreciate your time and help. Only with your help will the tournament be a success. If you are able to judge or have any questions, please reply to Heather Smith, NCFCA Judge Coordinator, at hsmithb@gmu.edu or 703.684.1320. Sincerely, Mike Farris HSLDA Chairman of the Board --------------------------------------------------------------------- Judging Schedule Wednesday, June 2 12:30 - 2:00 pm Round One: Extemporaneous 2:45 - 4:15 pm Round Two: Extemporaneous 5:00 - 6:30 pm Round Three: Extemporaneous Thursday, June 3 8:00 - 9:30 am Policy and LD Debate 10:00 - 11:30 am Round Two: Policy and LD Debate 12:00 - 2:00 pm Round One: Individual Events - Pattern A 2:00 - 3:30 pm Round Three: Policy and LD Debate 4:00 - 5:30 pm Round One: Individual Events - Pattern B 6:00 - 8:00 pm Round Four: Policy and LD Debate 8:00 - 10:00 pm Round Two: Individual Events - Pattern A Friday, June 4 8:00 - 10:00 am Round Two: Individual Events - Pattern B 10:00 - 11:45 am Round Five: Policy and LD Debate 12:00 - 1:30 pm Round Three: Individual Events - Pattern A 2:00 - 3:30 pm Round Six: Policy and LD Debate 4:00 - 6:00 pm Round Three: Individual Events - Pattern B 5:45 - 7:15 pm Double Octofinals - Policy and LD Debate Saturday, June 5 8:00 - 10:00 am Octofinals - Policy and LD Debate 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Semifinals - Individual Events 12:00 - 2:00 pm Quarterfinals - Policy and LD Debate 2:00 - 4:00 pm Semifinals - Policy and LD Debate 4:00 - 6:00 pm FINALS - Individual Events 6:00 - 8:00 pm FINALS - Policy and LD Debate ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Will your friends stand by you in trouble?
