We learned late yesterday that the driver's education bill, House File (HF) 2394 is coming up for a vote in the Iowa senate on Wednesday. We also learned that teacher's unions are gearing up their full machinery to try to defeat this bill. Can ordinary mothers and fathers who love their children and are dedicated to freedom prevail against the powerful teachers unions? Absolutely yes! They have done it in state after state. Now it is Iowa's turn. But we need the help of every HSLDA Member in Iowa. Action Requested: 1. Call your state senator today or early tomorrow. Your message can be as simple as, "Please vote in favor of HF 2394. It will allow parents to teach driver education to their homeschooled children. Statistics show that lives are saved and accidents are prevented when homeschool parents teach driver's education to their own children." Use our legislative toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox if you do not know who your senator is. Call (515) 281-3371 to leave a message for your senator. 2. Call at least two homeschool families and ask them to call their senator. 3. Pray. God is mighty and often works in ways we cannot see. Reasons to Support HF 2394: 1. According to a statistical study by students at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, injuries and deaths were dramatically lower for teens who learned to drive using a homeschool driver education program. The number of accidents and tickets was also dramatically lower. 2. Homeschool students are frequently turned away from public school driver education classes because the classes are full. 3. Public school driver education courses are expensive, and getting more expensive. 4. No professional driver or teacher cares as much about your child as you do. Parent taught driver education is highly successful because of highly individualized attention, flexible scheduling, parent-child interaction, and greater opportunity for accountability. 5.
