====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 18, 2004 Maryland--Compulsory Attendance Bill Withdrawn Dear Maryland HSLDA Members and Friends, Thank you for your phone calls-they had an impact! Yesterday the sponsor of SB 618 withdrew his bill. The bill would have raised the compulsory attendance age in Maryland from 16 to 18. At approximately 12:30 PM yesterday, I filed written testimony against the bill and signed up to testify. Manfred Smith of Maryland Home Education Association also signed up to testify. The Maryland Department of Education opposed the bill and filed written testimony. At 3:00 PM, the Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee convened and announced the bill had been withdrawn. Christian Home Educators Network and Maryland Association of Christian Home Educators also worked to oppose this bill. Thank you for standing with us for freedom! Sincerely yours, Scott A.
