Dear HSLDA members and friends: Due to your calls, House Bill 437 has been removed from all committee schedules! This bill would have created a tracking system for all children in the state who were of school age, under school age but attending school, or attending kindergarten. Each child would have been assigned a 10-digit identification number, and information about the child's educational progress would be reported to the Legislature every year. The sponsor of the bill, Representative Chenault, has now assured us that the bill is effectively dead! This victory would not have been possible without your phone calls, e-mails and letters. While HB 437 remains on the Alaska Legislative website, HSLDA and Alaska Private and Home Educators Association will continue to monitor the bill to ensure that no further action is taken.
