====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 4, 2004 Illinois-Child Welfare Investigation Reform Passes Senate! Dear HSLDA members and friends: Child welfare reform continues to advance in the Illinois Legislature. S.B. 2448 creates crucial due process protections for homeschoolers and other families faced with child welfare investigations. It was recently passed unanimously by the Health and Human Services Committee and has now passed the entire Senate unanimously! Senator Peter Roskam, the sponsor of the bill, is carefully guiding S.B. 2448 through the legislature. We are very grateful for his work and also to the Christian Home Educator Coalition of Illinois, who worked to secure Senator Roskam as the sponsor and continues to work in the Illinois legislature to ensure passage. We will continue to update members on the progress of this bill. Our strategy at this point is to pass the bill without drawing significant attention to it. If this law is passed it will keep social workers properly chained by the Constitution and they will be liable for making certain they respect the parental and Fourth Amendment rights of families. We are thankful for everyone's efforts to enact this legislation, and hope to pass it through the House quickly.
