====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January/February 2004 Amazing Love-Reality Christianity at Work! Many, like me, have prayed in hospital delivery rooms, "Lord, we'll be equally grateful for either a boy or a girl, just let this child be healthy!" But how would I feel if the child was not "healthy?" What if, in fact, the child would be unhealthy for life? I now feel uncomfortable with such a prayer. Like me, many would probably say that all children are equally important and valuable. But how many of us have sought a child that others, even we, would view as "imperfect?" Today, many homeschooling parents are doing just that, under the guidance of CHASK, which stands for Christian Homes and Special Kids. Contrary to our culture that encourages aborting such imperfect children, CHASK is actively placing special needs children in adoptive Christian homes across America. Sabrina is one such baby who recently found a home. She was born with Downs syndrome. Alone, she underwent open-heart surgery in a Florida hospital. An adoption agency that knew her story contacted CHASK. They asked if the ministry knew of anyone with a home study ready who was willing to adopt a baby with Downs syndrome and heart problems. CHASK had several families in that position, and soon Sabrina's new parents were flying to Florida to take care of her while they completed the paperwork that made her their own. She now has a loving home and her parents are happily getting to know their precious daughter. In a day when 80% of babies diagnosed as special needs are being aborted, the Christian homeschool community is stepping up to affirm the value of life and demonstrate God's love. This is reality Christianity-where what we do shouts out what we believe! To find out more about CHASK and how you can become involved in this special ministry go to www.chask.org. The Home School Foundation enthusiastically supports the ministry of CHASK! Our Special Needs Children's Fund is a complementary ministry to these special children and their families.
