====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 25, 2004 Virginia--Calls Needed: Homeschool Bill Scheduled for Revote Tomorrow Dear HSLDA members and friends: Last week the vote for HB 675 was tied at 7-7 in the Senate Education Committee. The committee is holding a revote on February 26. We have confirmed that the missing Democratic Senator Houck will vote for the bill, making it 8-7. However, considering the pressure the Virginia Education Association (VEA) is placing on the senators, anything could happen. Therefore, we are asking for residents in the districts of Sen. Lambert, Sen. Lucas, and Sen. Edwards to call these senators today and tomorrow to convince them to support HB 675. They each voted against the homeschool bill last week but were very uncertain of their position. Pressure from their constituents may help them change their minds to vote for HB 675. The calls and emails should be made today (Feb. 25) or up until 10:30 a.m. on the Feb. 26. ACTION: 1) Call your senator if listed below and urge him or her to support HB 675. Call ONLY if you live in their district. (If you know someone who lives in their district, call that person and ask them to call the senator.) Please give your senator this message in your own words: "Please vote in support of HB 675 and thereby protect every parent's right to homeschool in Virginia. This will bring Virginia up to speed with the other states that focus on results, not qualifications. The studies ALL show that homeschooling works, with students scoring above average regardless of the parents' qualifications." Senator Lambert: 804-698-7509, district09@sov.state.va.us Senator Edwards: 804-698-7521, district21@sov.state.va.us Senator Lucas: 804-698-7518, district18@sov.state.va.us Thank you for your efforts for freedom! Sincerely, Chris Klicka Senior Counsel Home School Legal Defense Association {{JoinAd}} ====================================================================== The HSLDA E-lert Service is a service of: Home School Legal Defense Association P.O.
