====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 18, 2004 Virginia--Homeschool Bill Hearing Tomorrow Dear HSLDA members and friends: The homeschool bill, HB 675, will be heard before the full Senate Education Committee tomorrow, February 19. This Committee is chaired by homeschool supporter, state Senator Russ Potts. Based on the number of commitments so far, we hope to have at least 8 favorable votes out the 15-committee members. Please come and show your support. The hearing will be held at approximately 8:30AM in Senate Room B of the General Assembly Building. Chris Klicka of HSLDA is scheduled to testify. We drafted HB 675 to end Virginia's baccalaureate degree requirement. If passed, this bill will allow families to homeschool, regardless of the parent's level of education. No longer will it be necessary to seek discretionary approval from the local superintendent or comply with state standards of learning! This bill will bring Virginia up to speed with 48 other states that allow parents with a high school diploma or less to teach their children at home. It will also end the harassment some families without college degrees have faced from school districts. Thank you for all your calls to help us get this far!
