====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 12, 2004 Dear South Dakota HSLDA members and friends: On February 5, the Senate Education Committee voted down Senate Bill 156, a bill that would have forced public schools to monitor homeschoolers' year-end tests. HSLDA worked closely with South Dakota Christian Home Educator's lobbyist Carroll Torberson and discovered a solid majority of the committee were opposed to the bill. As expected, when the bill came up for a vote, the committee voted to defer consideration until the day after the legislative session ends, effectively killing it. We did not ask our members to make calls. We were convinced the bill was so badly flawed that calls were unnecessary. We're grateful common sense prevailed.
