School Principal Makes Unlawful Request of HSLDA Member Family Michigan - The principal of Longfellow Elementary in Hazel Park recently contacted the Klobucher family, an HSLDA member family, demanding that they complete the school district's Home School Report form. In his letter, the principal advised the family that failure to comply could result in truancy or educational neglect proceedings. Social Worker Harasses Family in the Middle of the Night Florida - The L family, homeschooling in Debary was awakened at 1:00 a.m. by a social worker at their door, demanding to come in and see the children. Religious Exemption Policy: Rocky Start, Good Finish Virginia - In the wake of a highly publicized local case of suspected child neglect, on May 7, 2003, the Hanover County School Board revised its religious exemption policy with no notice to the homeschool community.
