====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 2, 2004 Dear Vermont HSLDA members and friends: Your calls are making a difference for homeschoolers in Vermont! On Thursday, January 27, the Vermont House Education Committee began taking testimony on House Bill 560, which would permit parents to teach their own children to drive in the Green Mountain State. Retta Dunlap testified on behalf of the Christian Home Educators of Vermont. Retta found the committee members generally supportive of H.B. 560. They seemed to be willing to consider not only permitting homeschool parents to teach their own children to drive, but expanding the bill to permit even more freedom. This week both the education and transportation committees in the House and in the Senate will hear testimony from Wayne Tully from the National Driver Training Institute. Wayne has been teaching children to drive for years, and has designed a course for parent-taught driver education. He is a nationally recognized expert on the subject and his testimony may be invaluable. We need you to take time to attend a committee hearing to ensure passage. ACTION REQUESTED: If you want to have the right to teach your child how to drive, please attend one of the committee hearings on Wednesday, February 4 or Thursday, February 5 to show support for Mr. Tully as he testifies. The schedule of committee hearings is: Wednesday, February 4 10:15 am - House Transportation 11:30 am - Senate Transportation Thursday, February 5 10:30 am - House Education 1:00 pm - Senate Education If you can come to any or all of these hearings, please contact Retta Dunlap, at 802-472-5491 or e-mail her at mountainfold@juno.com. She will provide you with directions. This is a great opportunity for a field trip to show your children how your state government works. Sincerely, Scott Somerville HSLDA Staff Attorney {{JoinAd}} ====================================================================== The HSLDA E-lert Service is a service of: Home School Legal Defense Association P.O.
