====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January 23, 2004 Dear HSLDA members and friends: We have a tremendous opportunity to win more freedom for homeschoolers in Virginia! We need your attendance at a hearing suddenly scheduled in Richmond for Monday morning. We have drafted a bill (HB 675) to end the baccalaureate degree requirement in Virginia--if passed this bill will allow families to homeschool with just a homeschool diploma! This bill will bring Virginia up to speed with 48 other states that allow homeschoolers to only have a high school diploma to teach their children. It will also end the harassment some families have faced from school districts. HSLDA, working together with HEAV, had this bill HB 675, introduced by Del. Rob Bell of Charlottesville. ACTION: Please make every effort to attend the first hearing on HB 675. Without a strong showing of support from the homeschool community, this bill may not pass. The Virginia Education Association has already targeted this bill for defeat. The bill, HB 675, will be heard before the House Education Committee, Monday, Jan 26, 9 a.m., in House Room C of the General Assembly Building. This will be a great field trip for your children! Please pray for this important bill to pass.
